Celebrating Community, Honoring Volunteers!
Join us as we reflect on the success of this past campaign cycle and recognize the incredible impact made possible by our businesses, campaign leaders, and generous supporters—including those leading the way with their giving. We'll also honor the dedicated volunteers whose time and energy help our mission thrive year after year.
We look forward to coming together to celebrate the heart of our community—the generosity, kindness, and dedication that truly make a difference every day.
Honoring Outstanding Volunteers with Our Annual Awards
As part of our celebration, we’re proud to recognize the extraordinary contributions of volunteers who exemplify the spirit of service through two special awards:
Gene & Mickey Workman Lifetime Achievement Award
This award honors the legacy of Gene Workman, a cornerstone of our United Way, and his wife and life partner, Mickey. Together, they exemplified extraordinary volunteerism and a lifelong commitment to the communities of eastern Wayne County. Established in 1987, with the first recipient being Donna Dale Davis, this award continues to celebrate those who have made an enduring impact through their dedicated service.

Patti Ayers "Yes!" Award
Some volunteers are the unsung heroes of our success, quietly and humbly making extraordinary contributions without expecting recognition. These individuals go above and beyond, consistently saying “Yes!” to every call for help and embodying the spirit of selflessness and action. This award, established in 2004 to honor Patti Ayers, celebrates volunteers whose dedication, organization, and can-do attitude reflect Patti’s extraordinary legacy.
